Crop :
Select your crop for recommendations.

Yield Goal:
Select a yield goal that represents your yields of this crop averaged over the last 5 years . Then add 10% to arrive at an estimated yield goal for your next crop year. Yields should be in Bushels, Tons, or Pounds per acre depending upon choice in "Crop".

Optimum Level:
This represents the minimum level of K in ppm, Lbs / acre or lbs/ acre of K2O in the soil that is needed before considering adding a build-up amount to the soil to bring it up to this level. Above this level only maintenance amounts of K are required to maintain the optimum level. The optimum level for K is usually in the 90 - 150 ppm range regardless of the extractant used in the soil analysis.

C.E.C.: ( Cation Exchange Capacity )
Using the CEC adjusts the amount of K recommended to take into consideration the number of negative sites in the soil that can hold positively charged (+) cations or K+. If the CEC is low it will lower the rate of fertilizer recommended. If the CEC is high it will raise the rate of K recommended to keep the soil at 5 % K of the CEC. CEC also relates to the soil texture . The following shows this relationship. CEC is measured in millequivalents per 100 grams of soil (MEQ).

CEC Range ( MEQ)

Soil Texture

0 –10

Sandy - Sandy Loams

11-20

Silt - Silt Loams

21-30

Clay Loams

31-40

Clay Soils

40+

Muck Soils

Nutrient Removal:
This represents the amount of the nutrient that is removed in each 1 bushel, pound or ton of yield for a specific crop.

Soil Test Value:
This represents the reading that is shown in your soil test report for the amount of K given in PPM, lbs/acre K or in lbs/acre of K2O.

Product Percent Analysis:
This is the amount of K20 in a given product that is to be used to meet the crop’s K nutrient needs. This amount can be adjusted depending on the % analysis of the product or blend being utilized.

Starter Credit:
This is the amount of credit in pounds/ acre that is provided in the starter fertilizer. This is based on the analysis and rate applied at time of planting.

Product to Apply:
This the amount of fertilizer and product analysis that is recommended to meet the crop’s K nutrient requirement for the yield goal that has been selected under normal climatic conditions. This level of nutrients will allow you to capitalize on additional yield if the climatic conditions are more favorable than normal.
